Cash for Appliances Rebate Program – Starts Friday

Posted on March 25, 2010 by tim in Home Maintenance, Investor, Rebate Programs, Selling

It’s official! After months of delays, the government’s Cash for Appliances program begins in Ohio this Friday, March 26.

Reported by: John Matarese

The program, sometimes called “Dollars for Dishwashers,” or the blander “Appliance Rebate Program,” will offer rebates averaging $100 on many new appliances. It’s expected to generate a rush of sales, and stores like The Appliance Loft in Oakley, as well as local Sears, Best Buy and hh gregg stores will have extra staff on hand this weekend to handle the crowds. However, just like with the Cash for Clunkers automobile program last year, its main goal is to replace inefficient appliances with more efficient ones. As a result, products must have the Energy Star label to qualify.

What Qualifies?

You can get a rebate on most energy efficient:

  • Refrigerators
  • Washing machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Water heaters

What Doesn’t Qualify?

  • The following appliances do not qualify, as they are considered energy guzzlers:
  • Clothes dryers
  • Stoves, ovens, ranges,
  • Microwave ovens

This program will continue until the total available funds have been depleted. Available funds are $11,020,000.
